About Us

The Space Power Project was formed to solve the “Flexible Use of Electricity” global challenge by The Junior Academy at The New York Academy of Sciences, which was sponsored by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Chalmers University of Technology. It is a result of an international collaboration among young scientists under the mentorship of the Ph.D. Dr. Garret Schneider, a retired Aerospace Engineer. It was the first young innovator's project invited to speak at the United Nations official podcast series SDG Learncast.

Our mission

The mission of Space Power is electrifying Sub-Saharan Africa, one local vulnerable group at a time.

Our values

Sustainability

Sustainability is in every part of our project and we bear the most diverse meanings it may have. We are environmental and economically sustainable. We are eco-conscious and do our best to guarantee affordability, but we also think ahead, by responsible long-term planning, making us a self-sustainable organization.

Innovation

To solve old issues, we need new approaches. Afterall, we won't change the world doing the same unsuccessful actions that have been done in the past years. That's why we are driven to innovation, why we are STEM-focused in our initiatives.

Equality

We advocate for an egalitarian world, where everyone has access to the same life quality. That's the reason we work to provide electricity to the most remote and vulnerable groups, aiming to guarantee universal energy access - because the electrical infrastructure influence in all other aspects of daily life. And to reinforce social equality, we go further, proposing gender investment policies in the supported communities.

Youth Inspiration

As a young team, we recognize the barriers that the youth face to enter the innovation and entrepreneurship field, but we believe that we should do our best to pursue our ideas and beliefs. We trust that, with good efforts, the young generation can make the world a better place and we will be extremelly satisfied if we could inspire them to do so.
